One of the great things about living in Indianapolis is the location, now I am not talking about the luxury of living downtown but how many cities are within driving distance. You have Chicago that is 3 hours away, Cincinnati that is 2 hours away, and Louisville which is a little over 2 hours. A couple weekends ago one of my childhood best friends and I decided to meet up. She and her family live in Lexington a few hours away. So we met up in Louisville.

Now I have never been there except driving through on our way home or back. But I get really excited to pull out “the list.” Most of my friends know what I am referring to and just shake their heads. I have a list on my computer which is updated weekly, and yes sometimes daily, of quite a few restaurants, okay it is about 10 pages long, categorized into states and then cities. For those of you who know me but didn’t know I had this are now smiling or shaking your head because it pulls in my OCD tendencies with food. With all that to say, I got quite excited to start researching places to eat when Lindsey and I met up. I knew I wanted to eat at as many places as I could cram into a time period of a few hours.

So I got there early for breakfast and went to Proof on Main. I had heard of this restaurant from my Food & Wine Magazine that it was a great breakfast spot and the best part is they do a twist on my favorite, eggs benedict, poached eggs on a grit cake (instead of English muffin), country ham, and fonduta (instead of hollandaise), and then a side of arugula with shaved parmesan. Perfection! And of course, I had to throw in a mimosa. The next spot I knew would be a little tricky since we would have Lindsey’s almost 2 year old daughter Lily Hope there. Toast on Market is what I ended up deciding on because they had all kinds of grilled cheese (perfect for me and for kids!). Lindsey knows me well enough to choose two dishes we both would want and split it. She ordered the Ratatouille sandwich full of garden fresh blend of sautéed vegetables and fresh herbs on French baguette slices topped with melted fontina cheese and I got the Spicy Chipotle grilled cheese full of sharp cheddar, sliced tomatoes, red onions and cilantro with a spicy kick of smoky chipotle and molasses. Yum!!! The trip came to an end but by the time I had gotten home I had convinced John to come on a day trip with me within the next month to try out some more places!
