I know most people are used to the flavor combination of tomatoes and basil. But what about strawberries and basil? And add in some wine then you have found the perfect match!
This refreshing sangria sadly didn’t make an appearance at our 4th of July gathering because little man decided to have a fussy day so my time in the kitchen was limited. But if I could have I would have made this drink!
The upside to his fussiness is he slept for 6 straight hours that night. I tell you I felt like I could conquer the world the next day. I actually ended up laying in bed watching an Indiana Jones marathon though. haha
This idea came from a cocktail I had recently on one of our date nights out and I knew I had to remake it!
I fell in love with sangria for the first time when we moved up to Indy a couple years ago after we had it at Barcelona Tapas. I immediately went home and made a similar version of their red wine sangria. And a year later I made a cherry sangria. And here we are a year later with another sangria recipe. Yearly thing??? I think so.
The best part about this recipe is a few of the strawberries (and when I say few I mean two) came from our garden. You see these rabbits keep eating them so obviously the rest came from the farmers market. But all of the basil did actually come from our garden. The rabbits dare not get on my herb garden – the dogs guard that thing.
